How to Answer 'What is your greatest weakness?'
The psychological trick to turning a negative into a positive without sounding incredibly cliché.
This is the most dreaded question in any interview. If you say "I work too hard" or "I am a perfectionist," the interviewer will instantly roll their eyes. They are testing your self-awareness, not your actual flaws.
The 2-Part Formula
- State a real, but non-fatal weakness: Choose something that doesn't completely disqualify you from the job. (e.g., If you are an accountant, don't say you are bad at math. Instead, say you sometimes struggle with public speaking).
- Show the steps you are taking to fix it: This is the most important part. You must prove you are actively working on improving this flaw.
Example Answer:
"In the past, I have sometimes struggled with delegating tasks because I like to ensure things are done perfectly. However, I realized this was causing bottlenecks. To fix this, I recently took a project management course and started using Asana to clearly assign tasks to my team. It has completely changed how efficiently we work."
